Hard work spotlights the character of people. Some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses and some, don’t turn up at all! I hope a number of you will be able to help at our Spring Clean-Up on Saturday, May 7 at 9:00 a.m. I truly appreciate your giving up a Saturday to help make our Post look great. We will break for lunch and a cold drink and back to finish up, if necessary. We will not keep you any longer than needed. A big thank-you t...Read More

Do not get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessings at the appropriate time. On Saturday, March 12, we had an American Legion birthday party. It was an afternoon of fun and games, visiting with friends or just “hanging out”. There was plenty of good food and fellowship. If you were not able to attend, I am sorry. We have received positive reports. I certainly thank Jodie Armstrong an...Read More

Only with winter patience can we bring the deep, desired, long-awaited Spring. --- Anne Morrow Lindbergh What a difference a few days make. It has not been too long ago we were caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas. Nothing but sales and discounts! Now we go through all the hearts, candy and cards for Valentines Day. In just a few days it will be Easter baskets, candy, eggs and cards. There is no lapse in time from one holiday to an...Read More

I am writing this column in the year 2010. It will be 2011 when you read this. I can only hope that 2010 was a good year for you. I’m sure some of you experienced times of sadness. For that, I am sorry and I trust the New Year will serve you better. In the New Year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship and not in want. Remember – God never shuts one door unless He opens another! Birds sing after a storm. Why shouldn’t we? If...Read More

Lord, help me to do my best work so that I do not have any regrets. Mother Nature certainly can be in charge of all situations. On Sunday, July 4th, twenty of us were at the Post before 6:00 a.m., with the expectation of putting up the flags at the Memorial. All of us had been listening to the weather reports which did not sound very promising. We listened to the report at 6:00 a.m. and the prediction was 70% chance of rain. Not wanting to take ...Read More

Lord, teach me not to judge, for none of us knows what goodness lies in our neighbor’s heart. On Friday, May 28th, students from Waubesa School met members of Post 534 and flags were placed on graves of veterans in the Lower McFarland Cemetery. The students do this every year. They certainly seemed pleased and proud to be doing this. What a group of future leaders! When we finished there, the students went back to school and we went to the Upp...Read More

June 2010

No matter what my circumstances, may I never forget to celebrate the blessings of freedom. We had a good day on Saturday, May 1st, when we had our Spring Clean-Up Day. We worked both inside and outside. I don’t know how long the windows will remain clean, but they were all washed that day, along with the blinds. Men worked all over the grounds as well as on the roof installing wiring, hopefully to prevent any backup of snow and ice such as we ...Read More
