December 2011

Hi, again. Veterans Day was very busy with the flags going up at 6:00 a.m. At 7:00 a.m., we went to the high school for a veteran’s breakfast. About 15 of us attended with students and staff. At 11:45, Russ Jenkins and I went to Harmony House Assisted Living and I gave a short talk on the Honor Flight history. We then had the privilege to present three certificates of appreciation to four World War II veterans. At 1:45, we went to Waubesa Middle...Read More

Hi, again. Well, I guess the summer is over. I finally decided to get my boat out of the water (30 degrees, 25 mph winds). Why I wait so long every year is a mystery. Cleanup on October 1 was well attended and a lot of work got done. Unfortunately, I was unable to be there due to a prior commitment (Driving Miss Daisy). Thanks to everyone for their work. We will be hosting the Dane County Legion Meeting of October 27 at 7:00 PM. Please don’t for...Read More

October 2011

Hi, again. It has been a busy month for us and I hope I don’t forget anything. (If I didn’t wait until the last minute, I wouldn’t have this problem.) The chicken BBQ was a great success. Preliminary reports indicate about 650-675 chicken halves were sold. One man bought 10 dinners and put them in his vehicle. When he returned to his vehicle, someone had stolen them and we replaced them. Oh well, I guess that’s our society today. Special thanks ...Read More

Hi everyone, Our building fund raffle was a great success again this year. Cheryl Murray from McFarland was the grand prize winner. Thanks to everyone for selling and/or buying tickets. We sold out about 2 hours before it started. Thanks to all who helped during the event. You made it a success. We will be having our famous Chicken BBQ on September 18, Family Festival weekend. We will be serving from 11 AM to 5 PM. We still need help in the...Read More

Hi to everyone from your new commander (again). Thanks to all for the congrats you have accorded me. On Saturday, June 25, the day after installation, I had the privilege to present a United States flag and a certificate from our legion to Jimmie Starke in honor of him reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 53. I also presented a certificate to Jimmie’s parents, Jeff and Lisa Starke, for their guidance and support in order for him to reach th...Read More

If you were unable to be at Post 534 on Memorial Day, you missed out on a lot. Beginning at 6:00 a.m. when the flags were raised at the Memorial, to the time they were taken down, good things were happening including visits to the cemeteries and the parade at noon. We surely thank Kathy Durant, Second Vice Commander, for all her work on the parade. Our program was at 1:00 p.m. What an honor to have with us S/Sgt. Sal Giunta, Medal of Honor recip...Read More

There is nothing wrong with having nothing to say - - - unless you insist on saying it. What a great day we had on Saturday, May 7th, for our Spring Clean-up Day. Twenty-seven willing workers came and really pitched in to get the job done. Tables and windows were washed, pictures and fans dusted, the Missing Man Table received a new cloth and tableware washed. I cannot say enough for the kitchen help. I mean it was REALLY cleaned! JoAnn and Terr...Read More
